Notary Service at the Ramsey Free Public Library
The Ramsey Free Public Library offers a free notary service for Ramsey residents only. Please review the library’s Notary Policy on parameters and guidelines before scheduling a notary appointment. Notary service is by appointment ONLY. Please call BEFORE arriving at the library to setup an appointment. To setup an appointment, please call the library’s main desk at 201-327-1445.
Ramsey Free Public Library Notary Service Policy
The Library is able to provide Notary service for Ramsey residents. However, there are some restrictions, including time restrictions when the service is available.
Notary service is available by appointment ONLY. The library only has one notary staff member and providing notary service is not this staff member’s primary duty.
Notary service is available for Ramsey residents only.
Valid photo ID with a signature is required. A current driver’s license or passport is recommended.
Notary service is only available during these two times during the week: Wednesdays, 6:30pm-8:30pm and Fridays, 2:00pm-4:00pm.

The Notary witnesses your signature. The only responsibility of the Notary is to witness a signature. Do not sign and date the documents beforehand. Any signed and dated documents will not be notarized.
If the document requires a witness, you must bring your witness at the time of notary. Valid identification is required for witnesses. The Library does not provide witnesses and the Notary does not act as a witness.
Documents in any language other than English will not be notarized at the Library.
New Jersey law requires that a Notary and the customer seeking notarization be able to communicate directly with each other. Library Notary is not permitted to make use of a translator to communicate with a Notary Service customer.
Notary Service is not available for Deeds, Wills, Living Wills, Living Trust, Codicils or Depositions. The Notary does not interpret nor explain your documents.
Copies of government issued documents will not be notarized. Examples of these are birth certificates, death certificates, marriage certificates, passports, driver’s licenses, social security cards.
In accordance with New Jersey Notarial Law, notaries reserve the right to decline service if the document(s), identification or circumstances of the request raise any issue of authenticity, ambiguity or doubt for the Library.
“A Notary Public is a public officer of the State of NJ who serves as an impartial witness to the signing of documents and to the acknowledgement of signatures on documents. There are two primary responsibilities of Notaries: 1) Validate the signer’s identity and 2) confirm the signer’s willingness and awareness to sign the document.”
