Ramsey Journal: Winter 2010 Edition |
The Ramsey Library renovation is underway! You may not see
activity as you drive by on Wyckoff Avenue, but behind the scenes the project
manager, contractor and architect are working with borough officials to make
sure that everything is properly prepared as the project proceeds.
Across town, the library is operating at our temporary site in the Pavilion
Building at 171 Lake Street. We are open seven days a week on our regular
service schedule: Monday - Thursday 9-9; Friday 9-5, Saturday 10-5 and Sunday
12-4.
If you need more information just give us a call at 201-327-1445 or visit our
website: http://www.ramseylibrary.org.
The web site lists our story time schedule for children. While space is limited,
we are still able to offer activities that encourage everyone to borrow the
resources at the library; books, music CDs, DVDs and magazines for all ages. If
we don't have something on our shelves we can easily order it for you from one
of the other area libraries or you can place your own request online: http://www.BCCLS.org.
Teens, you can Fan us on Facebook by clicking on the Teens link at: http://www.ramseylibrary.org.
Look for future "Pages to Reel" programs sponsored by the library and the Smith
School Media Center.
Think "BeAT", the Bergen eAudio Team, when you want to download audio and ebooks
to your iPod or MP3 device: http://www.beateaudio.org or click though from the
library web site.
English as a Second Language, ESL, services continue with student/tutor matching
and a weekly conversation class. See the library web site for more information.
New tutors are always welcome. Free training is provided.
The library has computer access for word processing and the Internet, along with
early literacy programs for young children. Remember to bring your library card
to sign in.
The building is a wireless hot spot if you prefer to bring your laptop or
netbook.
Although there is no room for a Friends of Ramsey Library book sale this year,
FORL will still sell the popular "Book Lover's Calendar" for 2010. This
wonderful gift item helps support the Friends. Come purchase copies for the
readers in your life this holiday season, only $8 per calendar.
Also, look for the Friends 2010 annual membership appeal in your mailbox. Your
FORL dues are the main source of Friends support for the library's activities
for children and teens. We will have amazing special events to celebrate the
library's new space so plan now to help the Friends help the library.
The Ramsey Journal will help keep you up to date as the library renovation moves
forward. We also send email progress reports to registered library users so now
is the time to make sure that your library card is current and that we have your
email address. Stop in to see us and confirm that we know how to reach you.
Before you know it we'll be back in our renovated building.
Until then, look for us in the train station at "Home for the Holidays" on
December 5th. We'll be reading stories for kids of all ages! |

We are now open at 171 Lake St. in the
Pavilion strip mall with Doctor's Inn and Curves |
Wonderful things are about to happen at
the Ramsey Free Public Library. We are preparing for a total library
renovation that will make our 40-year old building energy efficient, bright
and cheerful, allowing for much better use of our 14,000 square feet.
 |
There will be redesigned areas for
children and teens, comfortable reading spaces for adults and room to settle
in with a laptop for wireless computing. Both library entrances will be
reconfigured to meet at a central circulation desk. The information service
desk will be near the main entrance for referral to a librarian should you
need assistance.
New popular books and media will fill the open atrium of the library while
book stacks will be located along the sides of the building. A glass
enclosed reading room will highlight the Wyckoff Avenue view, inviting all
who pass by to stop in for a visit.
The program room will be updated, opening directly into the children's
area for easy access to story times and crafts. Rest rooms will be expanded
to meet all ADA rules.
 |
The library windows and doors will be
replaced with energy efficient double glazed panes. New heating and air
conditioning systems will maintain uniform comfort throughout the building
in every season.
The project should take about a year to complete and we plan to be back
in our renovated space in time to kick off the 2010 Summer Reading Club.
We will have to close for a few weeks while we move to temporary quarters
during the project. While the construction goes on, the library will operate
at 171 Lake Street, just before Route 17, on the east side of the borough.
This is the location of Doctor's
Inn and Curves. We will be in the back of the Pavilion building, in space
that will allow us to provide computers and some books and media for all
ages. Although most of our collection will be in storage, we will continue
to borrow items for you from other BCCLS libraries for delivery to our
temporary home.
Please remember that you must always have your library card with you when
visiting other BCCLS libraries or you will not be able to borrow items from
their collections. Now is the time to get a library card or update your old
one if necessary.
Our neighboring libraries in Allendale, Franklin Lakes, Mahwah, Upper Saddle
River and Wyckoff have all agreed to support Ramsey during this transition.
These libraries will have a supply of Ramsey Library cards on hand and can
register new users or replace lost cards until we are open for business at
the Pavilion.
Details about our plans will be available on the library web site:
www.ramseylibrary.org. You can always reach us by phone: 201-327-1445 or
email: ramcirc@bccls.org. |
